AAF (Advanced Authoring Format) multimedia file is a container format used to store media content, used for interchange of audio/video data between various Adobe, Avid and other software. It is a high-quality post-production format for storing wrapped and mixed audio tracks, video clips, including time code information, and metadata. Moreover, AAF is used as an intermediary file format for transferring media asset created in one application to another application for further processing. The AAF file format provides interoperability between various software by preserving the timeline information and data of a project as well as embedded files.

The AAF file extension is ".aaf". It contains project settings, which contain editing points, clips, transitions etc. and is widely supported by many video editing software. Similar file formats are .amf, crim, cani, .xml, .omf, .cmf, and .evo.
