What is XLR file?
An XLR file is a data file created by Microsoft Excel and LibreOffice Calc. It belongs to the family of .XLS/.XLSX workbook formats, and it is based on the old spreadsheet format from the DOS era program called Lotus 1-2-3. An XLR file has the same number of columns and data as an Excel workbook, but since it doesn't support any features beyond those available in versions prior to Excel 5.0 and higher the data is stored in a less compact way. This means that XLR files are larger than XLS files. [ ⏩ ] XLR file extension
What is WKS file?
The WKS file extension is used by many common spreadsheet programs including Microsoft Works Spreadsheets, Lotus 1-2-3 and StarOffice Calc. This file stores data in worksheet form, with most supporting multiple worksheets within one workbook. A WKS file typically contains tables and cells with data or formulas, similar to those in an electronic spreadsheet. The information is arranged using rows and columns going from left to right and top to bottom in a sheet surface, like a graph paper. [ ⏩ ] WKS file extension
How to convert the file from XLR to WKS?
To successfully convert the XLR file to WKS, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.XLR). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case WKS (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than WKS).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. XLR to WKS. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting XLR files to WKS files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension WKS, while before this step we had the XLR file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new WKS file, or not.
