What is WKS file?
The WKS file extension is used by many common spreadsheet programs including Microsoft Works Spreadsheets, Lotus 1-2-3 and StarOffice Calc. This file stores data in worksheet form, with most supporting multiple worksheets within one workbook. A WKS file typically contains tables and cells with data or formulas, similar to those in an electronic spreadsheet. The information is arranged using rows and columns going from left to right and top to bottom in a sheet surface, like a graph paper. [ ⏩ ] WKS file extension
What is WQ1 file?
The WQ1 file extension is a spreadsheet file that was developed by Borland in the 1980s for early versions of the Quattro Pro software, which is part of Corel's OfficeSuite. Quattro Pro was one of the first successful popular spreadsheet applications on the market and it offered features such as Three-Dimension worksheets and Visual Basic Support. The WQ1 spreadsheets could be viewed on Windows, DOS, and Mac operating systems. The WQ1 files use tab-delimited text format to store data. [ ⏩ ] WQ1 file extension
How to convert the file from WKS to WQ1?
To successfully convert the WKS file to WQ1, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.WKS). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case WQ1 (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than WQ1).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. WKS to WQ1. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting WKS files to WQ1 files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension WQ1, while before this step we had the WKS file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new WQ1 file, or not.
