What is TIF file?
TIF (.TIF or TIFF) is an image file format standardized in 1988 by Aldus (Aldus Corporation) and Microsoft (Microsoft Corporation) for storing raster and vector images. It allows images to be individually compressed and they are composed of forms, lines and text. It supports different versions of bitmap, depending on how the image has been encoded and supports RGB, CMYK palettes, Indexed color, and various compression algorithms. [ ⏩ ] TIF file extension
What is MIF file?
A MIF (MapInfo Interchange Format) file is a text-based data file containing spatial geographic information used to create vector-oriented maps. This type of file is produced by the MapInfo Professional program, and it contains one to many linked files that include column headers, attributes, and coordinate pairs for every set of geographic objects. These objects are expressed in a vector data model, using latitude/longitude coordinates on the surface of a globe. [ ⏩ ] MIF file extension
How to convert the file from TIF to MIF?
To successfully convert the TIF file to MIF, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.TIF). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case MIF (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than MIF).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. TIF to MIF. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting TIF files to MIF files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension MIF, while before this step we had the TIF file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new MIF file, or not.
