What is MAP file?
A MAP file is a data file that contains geographic information about a particular area or region. It is often used for creating digital maps, including those used in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software. MAP files are most commonly associated with ESRI ArcGIS and ER Mapper, but can also be used by other mapping programs. MAP files typically end with the .MAP file extension, however some may use the alternate file extensions of .EML, .E00, and .ECW. [ ⏩ ] MAP file extension
What is KML file?
The KML (.KML) file extension is associated with Google Earth, ArcGIS Earth, and other geographic information systems (GIS) programs. It is primarily used for storing information related to geographic data, including map overlays, images, and points of interests. KML is an XML-based language employed by Google and other GIS applications and which allows users or developers to create new layers of data within GIS environments. [ ⏩ ] KML file extension
How to convert the file from MAP to KML?
To successfully convert the MAP file to KML, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.MAP). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case KML (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than KML).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. MAP to KML. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting MAP files to KML files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension KML, while before this step we had the MAP file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new KML file, or not.
