What is HFS file?
The HFS file extension is associated with the Apple Macintosh Operating System. It stands for Hierarchical File System, which is a type of archive file used to store files into a single file for archival and/or backup purposes. This type of file stores copies of the actual data that originated from the Apple operating system and can be reconstructed into the same type of data as it was originally created. HFS File Structure:HFS files are composed of a header and a catalog tree. [ ⏩ ] HFS file extension
What is HQX file?
The HQX file extension is most commonly associated with the BinHex 4.0 encoding format. It is primarily used to encode binary data for transmission over networks, such as the Internet, and for storage of data in a text-only format. This type of encoding was developed by Yves Lempereur in 1991, who named it after the "hexadecimal" character set that is used for representing data in binary form. [ ⏩ ] HQX file extension
How to convert the file from HFS to HQX?
To successfully convert the HFS file to HQX, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.HFS). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case HQX (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than HQX).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. HFS to HQX. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting HFS files to HQX files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension HQX, while before this step we had the HFS file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new HQX file, or not.
