What is FCSTD file?
The FCSTD file extension is the default document type for files saved with FreeCAD, a free and open source parametric 3D modeling application. These files are used in a range of industrial applications, from engineering design to architecture and fabrication. They can be opened and edited using FreeCAD, a powerful parametric 3D modelling program. The FCSTD file format stores both the design data used to create 3D objects, as well as their associated meta data. [ ⏩ ] FCSTD file extension
What is DAE file?
DAE (Digital Asset Exchange) is a file extension widely used in popular 3D software like Autodesk 3ds Max, Blender, and other applications that create 3D models and scenes. DAE file format is used as a medium to exchange 3D assets between these applications. It is based on the Collada (COLLAborative Design Activity) standard which provides an open interchange, platform-independent format. [ ⏩ ] DAE file extension
How to convert the file from FCSTD to DAE?
To successfully convert the FCSTD file to DAE, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.FCSTD). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case DAE (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than DAE).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. FCSTD to DAE. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting FCSTD files to DAE files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension DAE, while before this step we had the FCSTD file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new DAE file, or not.
