What is BIL file?
BIL (or Band Interleaved by Line) is a raster .bil file format developed and used primarily by ESRI. The files are commonly saved with an accompanying header file ending in the same base name, but with a .hdr extension. BIL files are used to store multi-band surface reflectance data for satellite imagery and aerial photography. [ ⏩ ] BIL file extension
What is PNG file?
The PNG (Portable Network Graphic) file extension is used for a raster-based image format. It is designed to replace the popular .GIF file format, and provide a similar color palette of up to 256 colors. PGN files are made of pixels that when combined form an image. This makes them ideal for simple web graphics, digital art and web comics. Higher Quality Images The main difference between the PNG file format and other image formats is its support for true color images. [ ⏩ ] PNG file extension
How to convert the file from BIL to PNG?
To successfully convert the BIL file to PNG, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.BIL). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case PNG (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than PNG).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. BIL to PNG. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting BIL files to PNG files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension PNG, while before this step we had the BIL file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new PNG file, or not.
