What is ASC file?
The ASC file extension is used to represent ASCII text documents. Generally, an ASCII file refers to a file that contains plain text in the form of characters recognized by the American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII). Such files are typically opened using simple text editors such as Notepad, TextEdit or vim, though other programming-oriented editors may also be used. [ ⏩ ] ASC file extension
What is 3DS file?
The .3DS is a 3D image file format used by the 3D Studio Scene software for creating and storing three-dimensional graphics. It is one of the most popular formats in 3D modeling, allowing a variety of programs to generate and view three-dimensional models quickly and with minimal error. The 3DS format is designed to make it easy for users to read, store, and modify 3D models. [ ⏩ ] 3DS file extension

How to convert the file from ASC to 3DS?
To successfully convert the ASC file to 3DS, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.ASC). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case 3DS (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than 3DS).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. ASC to 3DS. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting ASC files to 3DS files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension 3DS, while before this step we had the ASC file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new 3DS file, or not.
