The WOR (MapInfo Workspace File) file extension is associated with MapInfo Pro, a suite of professional software developed by Pitney Bowes Software. The WOR files are mainly used to store mapping data and related information created within this GIS (Geographic Information System) application. Many of the files produced by MapInfo Pro, including those with the WOR extension, may also be opened by several other GIS applications including similar software from ESRI and Microsoft.
Technical Details
WOR files contain all components necessary to accurately depict a specific geographic environment such as points, lines, polygons, text blocks, grids, charts, pictures and scanned materials. They are comprised of different tagged data elements as well as formatting instructions that define the arrangement of text and graphics elements. The files also store extensive object details like color settings, search requests, attributes in Layer Control dialog box, font, database attributes and layouts.
In Windows-based systems the WOR files are saved with either the.WOR or.WRK file extensions. WOR files can be used in both MapInfo Professional and MapInfo Discover. Other similar file extensions supported by MAPINFO PRO include .DAT, .MAP, .MIF, .TAB, .MID, .IND and .RVC.
