A WAR ( .war) file is an archive file used by Java Web Services, enabling developers to package multiple files into a single archive. It is a web application archive similar to .jar files but with a different purpose – Java archives contain libraries and resources needed for Java applications, while WAR archives contain all the content needed to deploy web-based applications, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and additional libraries.
