VFD ( .VFD) files are virtual floppy disk files used by Microsoft Virtual PC and other virtualization software. It is a binary image of a floppy disk created with the help of software such as WinImage, PowerISO or VFe. The image can be mounted as a “virtual drive”, allowing it to be used like an actual disk drive by the operating system.
Types of VFD File Extension
The VFD file extension can be either a single- or double-sided, double-density or high-density virtual floppy disk image. It can also be a quad-density floppy disk image, which is four times higher in capacity than single density disks. Likewise, VSD files are compressed versions of VFD files. Other related file extensions include IMG,.TIB, .IMA and .DMG, which are associated with other various virtual disk formats.
