VER (.ver) is a version record file in a text format. It contains version information, such as author, version and date dates, of software or other files. These files are mainly used by various Microsoft Windows applications, like the old MSI, MSM, and RTS installer packages. Version record files are also supported by OracleJDK, as well as the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime libraries.
The VER file contains data, formatted either as text strings or numerical values, which is used by programs to identify their versions. It’s mostly output from the program compilation processes and stored in plain text form for further reference. The structure of such files may vary depending on the application that generates them, and Ver files follow the syntax of the INI format.
