Microsoft Visual Studio Text Template Format | Microsoft | Developer Files |
The .TT file extension is used for Visual Studio Text Template files. These files are generated and used by the Microsoft Visual Studio development environment. TT files are created as a text template that contains code snippets and elements, which will generate source code when it is integrated with a code generator.
When using Visual Studio, TT files are necessary, since they do not allow the direct generation of code itself, but instead uses them to create the code. They are similar to the Visual Studio item and project templates, however they aren't able to physically generate files. Instead, they define custom rules and operations which are applied when the file is read.
Overview
Once a Visual Studio user creates a.TT file, they can add sections of codes or snippets that can be used to quickly produce uniform source code. They can also integrate variables, method calls and any required syntax based on the programming language being used. When users apply their own signature to a TT file, they can use it over and over again, with just minor modifications. Similarly to other Microsoft Visual Studio template formats such as .VSI, .VST, and VSCONTEXTS,.TT files take advantage of the underlying features of Visual Studio so as to create sets of reusable templates.
Compatibility Issues
.TT files can only be used in Microsoft Visual Studio. For functions such as outlining parameters in C# or creating a base class in VB.NET, they provide great flexibility for using standard pieces of code inside applications. Additionally, unlike other versions of template formats like .VSZ, TT files cannot be distributed outside of the development environment. Therefore, they should only be used when building an application within Visual Studio.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for MAC system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .TT) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .TT extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .TT file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .TT extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .TT extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .TT file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .TT file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .TT file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .TT file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .TT file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
