The .TS file extension is a container format for video and audio streams, known as TS Video Transport Stream file. It is used to deliver digital video and audio streams from websites like YouTube, iTunes, or other streaming services. This file format was introduced by Sony and Panasonic in the early 1990s, and became an official International Organization for Standardization (ISO) media transport standard in 2006.
Details of TS File Format
The TS file format is based on the MPEG-2 transport stream, and contains both audio and video data in compact compatible containers. It includes data packets such as start codes, PES packets, System Clock Reference (SCR), Program allocation table (PAT), and Program Map Table (PMT). All components are combined into a single file; timeshift files are stored on the user's device with special flags which allows the system to automatically seek out information needed for playback. Furthermore, some Apple devices can also read this file format.
Similar Formats and File Types
The TS Video Transport Stream file is closely related to other similar formats such as M2TS,.TP,.MTS, and more. It is designed to be compatible with a wide variety of media players, with a few exceptions. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to convert the format into another compatible type in order to ensure correct playback.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for MAC system
Programs for LINUX system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .TS) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .TS extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .TS file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .TS extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .TS extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .TS file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .TS file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .TS file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .TS file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .TS file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
