TCL Script Source Code | N/A | Developer Files |
The TCL file extension is associated with the Tcl Script programming language. Developed by John Ousterhout, this language is used primarily to create small utilities and embedded applications. It combines elements of interpretive languages, like Lisp and awk, along with the simple syntax of a C-like language. The language has a rich library of built-in commands, including functions for string manipulation, operating system interplay, various data structures and other common operations.
When someone saves a script written in Tcl in a file, it will almost always have the .tcl extension. However, there are other related formats that are saved similarly as scripts, such as .exp, wish and .itcl. All of these variations are used to replicate the same functionality as the Tcl script but may be tailored for different purposes or implementations.
Since its introduction in 1988, Tcl Script has been widely adopted by web programmers due to its ease of use and low learning curve. Although it is somewhat limited at times for more complex programming tasks, it has proven itself a powerful tool for developing smaller pieces of software or enhancing existing ones. With formatted extensions for different versions of the language available, potential developers can quickly get up to speed with writing Tcl Script code.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .TCL) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .TCL extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .TCL file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .TCL extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .TCL extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .TCL file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .TCL file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .TCL file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .TCL file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .TCL file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
