The SUO (Visual Studio Solution User Options File) file extension is used by the Microsoft Visual Studio development environment, and contains settings that are user-specific and are associated with a particular solution, such as general Visual Studio preferences, window locations, add-ins, Start Page preferences, and project-specific debugging configurations. SUO files are binary files stored with the same name as the corresponding .SLN (solution) file, with the addition of the .SUO suffix.

Other file extensions that are associated with Microsoft Visual Studio include: .SLN, .MSI, .CSPROJ, .VCXPROJ, .VCPROJ, .VBP, .VBPROJ, and CSXPROJ
Functionality of SUO File Extension
The SUO file stores most of the default configuration information of the currently open solution, including window size and position, custom path variables associated with the currently open solution, as well as other options related to the state of individual projects. It also stores debugging parameters for debugging projects when debugging multiple projects or builds in a single solution. Additionally, it stores information about specific conditional compilation symbols and references added to projects. The SUO file is used to store user-specific settings in order to avoid any need to reconfigure user settings every time one opens a project.
Advantages of SUO File Extension
The advantages of using the SUO file extension are its capabilities to save time in retaining settings inputted into Visual Studio for a given solution. These options are especially useful for maintaining multi-file solutions in terms of compilation flags, custom property values defined across projects in a single solution, location of windows in the working environment, and options set when debugging a multi-project solution.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .SUO) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .SUO extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .SUO file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .SUO extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .SUO extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .SUO file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .SUO file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .SUO file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .SUO file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .SUO file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
