Apple Mac OS Font Format | N/A | Font Files |
The SUIT file extension is associated with the Classic Mac OS operating system developed specifically for the original Macintosh desktops and laptops. The SUIT file format is traditionally used to store font datasets, which were required by Mac OS in order to properly display typefaces onscreen. SUIT files contain all of the information related to typefaces, such as kerning, weight, and slanting settings. These files are then loaded into Mac OS through the Finder application.
Structure of a SUIT File Extension
At its core, a SUIT file is an archive format that contains multiple files within it. The contents of each individual font contained in the SUIT file includes a postscript font file, bitmap and metric-driven font files, specimen drawings, digitally signed legal documents, and additional resources. All of these resources are packaged together in a singular file using common archive software such as StuffIt. This allows the user to then easily install and preview different typefaces without needing to find and execute multiple installation packages.
Compatibility Issues
Due to the fact that the SUIT file was introduced on Classic Mac OS almost four decades ago, current operating systems such as macOS High Sierra have difficulty loading these files. While most fonts contained within a SUIT file extension can be extracted by simply changing the name to “.sit” and opening it with an archive tool like StuffIt Expander, certain bitmap fonts and resources will require emulation of Classic Mac OS systems in order to properly install them on modern machines. Other file extensions utilized for containing font packages beside SUIT include .otf, .ttf, .fon, and various ones belonging to Adobe Fonts Catalog.
Programs for MAC system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .SUIT) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .SUIT extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .SUIT file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .SUIT extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .SUIT extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .SUIT file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .SUIT file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .SUIT file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .SUIT file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .SUIT file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
