The STI file extension stands for StarOffice Presentation Template, a layout document created with StarOffice Impress, an interactive presentation program and component of the StarOffice suite of applications. The STI document stores the default settings, shapes, drawings, auto layouts and other objects within a user created presentation file used to generate the frames and slides into the presentation. Additionally, the file containing an organizational structure which consists of sections, slides, and frames among others and can be produced in either a standard or widescreen format.
File Extension Symbology
STI files are specific ByteFormat files which employ the XStorage (XML-based) technology devised by Sun Microsystems Inc., for its StarOffice products. As with most documents composed and saved within the layers of these programs (such as SXD, ODG, STC, ODS, etc.), the user may directly edit the core files via either compatibility applications like Microsoft Office or open source ones like Libre Office and Apache OpenOffice.
Conclusion
STI files are not meant to be transferred or mailed from an one computer system to another unless specific instructions from the source and original receiver are followed in order to ensure successful file-sharing between computers or from server to client. Nevertheless, some Save Formatting options allow for exports of the presentation; such as html webpages or pdf documents. While these static mediums may be exchanged more easily via email or cloud storage solutions like DropBox or Google Drive, they are less descriptive than their source files are.

After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .STI) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .STI extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .STI file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .STI extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .STI extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .STI file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .STI file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .STI file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .STI file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .STI file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
