File extension .SRS

Microsoft Outlook Server Request Setting Format | Microsoft | Settings Files |
The .SRS file extension is a Microsoft Outlook Send/Receive Settings File, also known as an Offline Address Book (OAB) file. It is used by Microsoft Outlook to store its configuration settings for Send/Receive functions when the user is not connected to the internet or Exchange server. This allows users to have access to the same settings, even while offline.
The contents of the SRS file hold configuration data such as user preferences, latest version of Outlook used, account settings, and auto-complete list data. The config settings safeguard that the same send/receive configuration remains active in the Outlook app even after an internet connection is re-established. Without the SRS extension, a user would have to enter in their send/receive configuration data which could be a very tedious process.
Other File Types
Similar file types are .FPC, .MSS, and .SPR, which are also used in Microsoft Outlook's Send/Receive feature.
Compatibility and Support
Microsoft Outlook versions from 2002 through 2019 use the SRS file format. It is also supported by older versions of Microsoft Exchange server. SRS files are generally stored in the C > Documents and Settings > username > Application Data > Microsoft > Outbox folder but can also be stored outside Windows in a user directory or another networked storage device.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .SRS) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .SRS extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .SRS file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .SRS extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .SRS extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .SRS file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .SRS file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .SRS file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .SRS file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .SRS file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
