The SGR file extension is used by the GeneConstruct, a DNA sequence assembly software suite developed by Syngent International. SGR files are generated as the output of GeneConstruct's base calling module and contain information gathered from batches of genome data files which have been run through the software using a variety of methods.
What’s Inside SGR file?
SGR files typically contain mapping coordinates, which identify the location of a gene within the total genome sequence, as well as results generated from GeneConstruct's cross-reference homology search module which can indicate potential gene location matches between different species' genomes. In addition, an SGR file can also include a detailed annotation description for each gene sequence recorded, giving users more detailed information on the functional attributes of that particular gene variant. Other related files used in conjunction with SGR are: FFN, NFA, CANFASTA, and TFA.
How to Open an SGR file?
The easiest way to open an SGR file is with GeneConstruct, the software suite developed by Syngent International. In addition, there are other software programs out there that you may be able to use to access the data stored in an SGR. These include: IBM SPSS Statistics, EcloSoft gViewerXL, NetCerbus GCDS Viewer, BioEdit and Microsoft Excel. Additionally, if you have access to programming language tools such as SQL Server or Oracle databases then you may also be able to open and view the content of the SGR source file.

After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .SGR) with the new application.
