The SDD file extension is associated with the StarOffice Presentation. It is a text-based presentation format that is similar to Microsoft's PPT PowerPoint format in terms of structure and data storage. The SDD format was developed by Sun Microsystems for use in its StarOffice suite, before it was acquired by Oracle and released as the OpenOffice suite.
Technical Details
The SDD file format has a very basic structure – it stores its presentation data in ASCII characters, mostly as native text. Depending on the edition of StarOffice Presentation used, the SDD file may contain various types of objects (text, images, slides), much like a modern-day slide presentation software. The content is arranged based on objects, making it easy to access content or edit data directly with any text editor.
The SDD extension stores a presentation with multiple slide pages that can be navigated through a streamlining menus. In later versions, StarOffice Presentation also supports the linking of external data sources such as databases. The SDD files can be opened in many modern office suites such as Microsoft Office, LibreOffice, and OpenOffice writer to name a few. It can also be opened with other applications such as Apple iWork Pages and Google Docs. Other file extensions related to SDD files include STC, SDC, SXI, and POT.

After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .SDD) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .SDD extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .SDD file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .SDD extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .SDD extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .SDD file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .SDD file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .SDD file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .SDD file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .SDD file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
