An RV (Real Video File) file extension is a multimedia file format used to store video content for playback with RealPlayer. It was first developed by RealNetworks in 1997 to provide a means of supporting streaming media that could be efficiently downloaded even on slow connections. This video format is often found online for watching video clips and streaming movie trailers. These files can also be used for offline playback, but this requires installation of the RealPlayer software.
RV files contain compressed video content encoded in either the H.263 or RV9/RV10 (generic video) codecs.
