ReCycle Audio Loop Export Format | Propellerhead Software | Audio Files |
The REX (ReCycle Loop File) file extension is a cross-platform audio file format developed for Propellerhead Software. This ubiquitous format is used for time stretching and pitch shifting audio files, commonly utilized in drum loops. The purpose of this format is to enable looped audio samples to play without any gaps or artifacts at various playback speeds.
The REX file can be opened by a number of helpful applications. It works with popular music production software such as Steinberg Cubase, Fl Studio, and Apple Logic Pro. Various similar audio loop file extensions are also compatible with the Rex format, such as: .RCY, rcythend, and S6hoto. To open one of these file formats, you can use Apple’s Core-Audio system, Cakewalk’s V-Layer, or the audio processors AudioDino or FXpansion.
Audio Compression
The REX format employs audio compression methods to efficiently store sound data as it’s converted into digital form. Using compression techniques helps lower the size of the file while still retaining a high quality sound. These methods include A-law, mu-law or Microsoft ADPCM- laws, as well as GSM 6.10 and IMA ADPCM algorithms.
Bits per Sample & Sample Rates
A REX file consists of two components; an 8-bit PCM audio sample and a 4-byte SND command corresponding to every 16th note. This allows the REX file to accommodate multiple sample rates and bits per sample. The maximum sample rate for a REX file is 48KHz, while the maximum bits per sample can reach up to 32 bit resolution.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for MAC system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .REX) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .REX extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .REX file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .REX extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .REX extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .REX file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .REX file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .REX file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .REX file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .REX file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
