Quicken Financial Data Format | Intuit | Data Files |
The .QDF file extension identifies a Quicken Data File created by personal finance software applications developed and sold by Intuit, specifically Quicken and Quicken Essentials. A QDF file is used to store transaction data including account balances and stock prices, as well as budget information, tax data, and other financial information tracked by the user. It contains both the actual financial data in a proprietary format as well as overall program settings such as display preferences.
The most popular versions of Quicken for Windows and Mac will create files with the .QDF extension. However, the Mac version of the software is ending support for this file extension with the Quicken 2007 release and is transitioning to use a new .QDF-BACKUP or QDF-MISC file format, which provides more efficiency, better accuracy, and improved security. Other similar financial software applications include Microsoft Money, .OFX, .QIF, .PTN, .CSV, and .TXF.
Converting a.QDF File
Since all versions of Quicken after 2007 no longer have the ability to directly open.QDF files, it may be necessary to convert them using an older version of the program. It is possible to open files created with any recent version of Quicken using the current version; however, it is necessary to save the new version of a Quicken.QDX file in a.QDF format to ensure compatibility. Fortunately, many third-party programs are available for converting.QDF files from different versions of Quicken into other compatible formats.
Opening a.QDF File
The default program associated with the.QDF file extension is usually the current release of Quicken. Other programs may open it depending on the version or type. Many versions of Microsoft Money and different open source financial software applications offer limited support for opening and importing.QDF files.
Programs for MAC system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .QDF) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .QDF extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .QDF file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .QDF extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .QDF extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .QDF file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .QDF file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .QDF file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .QDF file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .QDF file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
