OGX is a file-based multimedia container format for storing audio, video, and metadata. It is primarily used to store Ogg Vorbis encoded media, although it can also be used with other formats and compressions. OGX stores data in a multiplex format, allowing for multiplexing of streams while still preserving the relative position and timing of those streams. OGX files are typically identified by the .ogx file extension.
OGX File Structure and Components
The OGX file structure is based on the Ogg Container Format and uses a “skeleton” with multiple “pages” or “packets” that contain the coded data streams. Each page consists of an "advertisement," which contains various information about the page's contents; a "header," which contains basic page information; and a "body" that stores the coded data itself. OGX files are generally divided into three main components—Temporal (the Content Identification Header), Logical (the Identification Page), and Physical (coding data pages).
Using OGX Files
OGX files can be opened and played using many popular media players such as VLC, Windows Media Player, QuickTime, and more. Though most modern Operating Systems (OS) are equipped with built-in support for OGX files, it may not always be enabled by default. To open OGX files, users must install the appropriate codec kit or plugin, depending on which OS they are using. Some similar file extensions include .oga, .ogg, .ogv, .ogm, and .spx.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for MAC system
Programs for LINUX system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .OGX) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .OGX extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .OGX file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .OGX extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .OGX extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .OGX file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .OGX file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .OGX file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .OGX file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .OGX file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
