The MPO (Multi Picture Object) file extension is a format commonly used by digital still cameras for 3D images. As many digital still cameras are now capable of shooting in 3D, this file type allows them to store the two separate components that make up each image, such as left frame and right frame. Depending on the camera brand, MPO files can also contain other information, such as shooting parameters and certain thumbnail data. On Linux Systems a package exists called mpofix which enables users to view these types of files.
