A MOF (Managed Object Format) File is a plain text file extension type used by Microsoft Windows, or the Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) platform, for storing managed objects.
A MOF file is used to define and carry out methods and operations in a Common Information Model (CIM). It contains information about runtime structure and components that are installed on the computer. It also contains the description, parameters, and data values ??for the functions of implemented classes.
Uses of MOF File Extension
MOF files are used to store CIM and WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) classes. This can be done by scripting languages such as Visual Basic Scripting (VBScript) and JScript which can access class definitions for a CIM Object Manager to carry out management operations.
For example, if an administrator wants to view the information that is stored in a WMI repository then a.mof file can be used to compile macro files so that they can be read by the WMI data provider.
