The MOBILECONFIG file extension is an mconfig Apple Mobile Configuration file. MOBILECONFIG files are used to store configuration settings that are sent to devices running the iOS and Mac OS X operating systems. It is used by Apple Configurator and is based on the Apple-developed property list file format which supports XML, binary, JSON, and even plain text formats. The configuration profile is a text-based XML file that stores passwords, certificates, device identity information, VPN and Wi-Fi settings as well as restrictions on certain applications or functionalities.
