EMule Cached Information Format | eMule | Data Files |
The MET ( .MET) file format was developed for use in eMule, a peer-to-peer file sharing program. The format stores resource meta-information which is known as a 'meta-data' file. Meta-data includes such information as MD4 hashes of each file, the number of sources (peers) who have the complete file, and the number of sources who have only portions of the file as well as bit intervals that help to validate sources.
Technical Details
MET files are usually less than 256KB in size and are named 'nodes.dat'. The file format is quite simple, and it consists of only 11 bytes for each entry. These 11 bytes are followed by a 4 byte value that has an integer which changes from 0, 1 to 2 based on how many data chunks are present in the other peers associated with that entry. The structure of an entry in the file is as follows: 8 bytes for Hash, 3 bytes for Preference, 1 byte for Verified flag and lastly 4 bytes for number of Chunks.
A.MET file can be used in other P2P programs such as BitTorrent, but the metadata stored in those files is different from the eMule programs. Additionally,.MET files can also store data relevant to emule's ed2k network, such as the list of IP addresses available for downloading. Other similar file extensions include .DAT, .TMP, and .HTM.
Programs for MAC system
Programs for LINUX system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .MET) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .MET extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .MET file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .MET extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .MET extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .MET file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .MET file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .MET file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .MET file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .MET file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
