The LVL (.LVL) file extension is associated with the Adobe Director multimedia authoring application, originally developed by Macromedia and now owned by Adobe. A LVL file is an encrypted media and game assets file used by the program to build multi-level Shockwave games and multimedia projects. It contains game level information, including map data, number of characters, their experience points levels, winning condition, audio data and other necessary scripts for the current gameplay session.

Technical Details
LVL files are encoded using the XOR algorithm with a 4 byte key which is derived from the LVL's modification date.
