HMI Historical Log Format | N/A | Data Files |
The LGH (HMI Historical Log File) file extension is a proprietary format developed by and used exclusively in Wonderware products, including the Historian Server Software, to store log files of process data from various HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems, including those produced by Schneider Electric, Industrial Automation and Norjan. The format of the LGH file is divided into several sections, with each section containing information pertinent to the data available within the log file.
Header Section
The Header section of the LGH file contains all non-data information such as log name and version. This section also holds any variable updates included in the log such as comment tags and other important notes pertaining to the log.LDF, SFE, and P4S are other similar file extensions associated with this type of file.
Data Section
The Data section of each LGH file contains the stored snap shot values for each variable recorded in the log. These values include the source or station address, scan interpolation rate, count per unit value, pseudo number generation and trend update rate. All information necessary for rebuilding or “replaying” the original files are present in this section of an LGH file.
Index Section
The Index section of an LGH file is a pointer to a specific point in the Data section of the log. Each pointer represents a specific point or record in the log that can be quickly accessed by the Indexer Process. This helps tremendously when searching for a particular point in Data Logs which are large and complex.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .LGH) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .LGH extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .LGH file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .LGH extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .LGH extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .LGH file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .LGH file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .LGH file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .LGH file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .LGH file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
