The JNT extension is the file type used for Windows Journal files in a Microsoft Windows system. Windows Journal is a graphics-based application which was included in versions of Windows prior to Windows 7. This application was used to draw, store and organize handwritten notes to be viewed and further edited in the future. JNT files stores each page of journal notes – they are saved as digital images rather than text documents, and when printed off the page will look exactly how it did when created.
File Format Details
JNT files contain a binary format, and use a specialized version of all the standard XML tags with a ‘journaltag’ prefix. Some tags include journaltag:time, journaltag:delete, journaltag:imgfloater and journaltag:page – these all contain information about page size, location of objects within the file, time stamps etc. The file itself is split into three components – Handwriting Strokes Info, Image File Info and Media Files Info. Handwriting strokes info stores only the coordinates of each stroke written, Image File Info is used to store data related to external objects such as pictures or graphs, and finally Media Files Info holds any additional content-related data.
Similar Files
Files that are similar in structure to JNT files include .JTP, .JTPL, JUA and .JBIG. These extensions are all exclusive to Microsoft Windows.
