SAS JMP Discovery Chart-to-statistics | SAS Institute | Data Files |
The JMP data file extension is a statistical data file format developed exclusively to be used with JMP software, a product of SAS Institute. Specifically, it is used to store and organize various kinds of statistical data obtained from JMP applications. The data is stored in an optimized, proprietary format that consists of a compressed binary file containing the binary representation of data organized in variables. This enables the data to be highly compact, efficient and readily accessible for analysis.
Features
The JMP file format offers several advantages over regular data files such as comma-separated values (CSV). It is structured in a way that allows for faster manipulation of large amounts of data, even if the files are quite large in size. It also permits multiple types of procedures to be executed on the data, including graphical analysis, linear models and non-parametric tests. Additionally, this format facilitates joint monitoring and sharing of data within the same organization using either local or external networks, as well as providing compatible compatibility with SAS, R language, SPSS, Matlab, and Stata.
Storage Capability
JMP files can store 3 different types of data: categorical (with a number of values); numerical (as double-precision floating-point numbers); and list (collections of values that are grouped together). Furthermore, any variable can either be stored as-is or it can be transformed into a different data type by applying various transformations from JMP applications - mainly those related to linear transformation (including geometric transformations) or changes in the way values are stored.
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .JMP) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .JMP extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .JMP file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .JMP extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .JMP extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .JMP file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .JMP file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .JMP file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .JMP file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .JMP file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
