JA (Jet Archive) is a proprietary file format used by Microsoft Access software. In most modern Windows machines Access is part of the Microsoft Office Suite. JA was designed as a compressed database package containing all table data and related information in one file.
JA files are implemented as a single, compressed combination of the following four components: DAT, LAB, NOTE and XABS. DAT is an internal data file containing a user-defined schema, an object list and data entries for all objects. LAB is a label file that stores the Access objects on disk space. NOTE is a collection of comments from the Database. XABS is an ABS type file that stores the layout and design of the forms and report in Access.
Uses of JA File
JA files are regularly used to store database information in a secure, compressed format; making it easier to transfer large volumes of data between devices or to back it up outside of the main system. JA files offer a reduction in file size which allows them to be emailed, uploaded, attached or shared via other methods more easily than uncompressed versions. In addition, unlike uncompressed databases, JA files do not need additional software plugins in order to open them.
Similar File Extensions
JA files can be opened using Microsoft Access, however there are many other database-style files available including .accdb, .mdb, .dbf, .gdb, .sqlite, .accde, .mde, and .adn.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .JA) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .JA extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .JA file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .JA extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .JA extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .JA file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .JA file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .JA file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .JA file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .JA file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
