ICL (Windows .ICL Icon Library File) is a file format used by Microsoft Windows operating systems to store libraries of icons. ICL files are created from folder and other icon sources and can contain up to 5,000 icons. This file type stores grouped icon images with ".ico" extension and other data associated with the icons. Due to compatibility, it is also possible to view these files in other operating systems.
Design
ICL files are made up of several data streams, including author information, color depth, and the image data which is usually stored in the.ico format. When opened in a text editor, ICL files typically display strings of scrambled code pointing towards the location of the image sources, as well as the internal name of the source folder. However, it is not necessary for the user to understand this as ICL files are chiefly responsible for storing links to image files.
