The FITS ( .FITS) file extension is a standard file format used for storing data in the fields of astrophysics, medical imaging, digital image processing, and other scientific disciplines. FITS stands for Flexible Image Transport System and is an open format that was developed and maintained by the NASA/Science Office of Standards and Technology. Description
