Facemaker Face Format | N/A | Raster Image Files |
The FAC (FACE Image File) is a raster graphic format that is used to store digital images. It was developed by Microsoft for use with the Windows operating system and is still the default file format for the Microsoft Paint program, which comes pre-installed as part of Microsoft Windows. FAC files can contain up to 256 colours in a single image and, unlike other raster formats such as JPG, PNG, and BMP, allow for variable colour depth, based on the amount of colour data being used in a particular image.
Format Properties
The FAC file format utilises the RLE (Run Length Encoding) compression algorithm, which is based on coding pixels with similar values. This encoding mechanism provides a way to represent vector images with fewer bytes than would be required otherwise. A typical fixed palette FAC file will usually range in size from around 10K to 70K bytes. The compression rate for a 24-bit image is between 2:1 and 3:1. Additionally, all FAC files begin with an 8-byte header that contains information such as the width and height of the image, file size, and colour depth.
Opening FAC Files
The Microsoft Paint program that comes pre-installed with Windows is capable of reading and writing FAC files. Other digital imaging programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel's PaintShop Pro, and various other free image viewers may also be able to open this type of file. For best results when viewing an FAC file, users should open it in a graphics editor such as Paint or Photoshop to view the entire file and make any edits necessary. Additionally, it may be possible to geometrically modify an image saved in this format using similar programs. These files can also be converted to other formats such as PNG, JPEG or TIFF using many of the aforementioned image editors.
Programs for WINDOWS system
Programs for MAC system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .FAC) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .FAC extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .FAC file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .FAC extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .FAC extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .FAC file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .FAC file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .FAC file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .FAC file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .FAC file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
