EndNote Connection Format | Thomson Reuters | Settings Files |
An .ENZ file is an EndNote Connection file, created by Thomson Reuters EndNoteversions 11 or later. It connects different software, like word processors and library databases, together. The ENZ file contains information about the connection as well as login credentials and preferences. The data in the file is commonly associated with a Reference Manager Library. It enables EndNote users to easily access library databases from within the EndNote software.
This connection file type is related to other metadata file types, like .ENW, which stores information about a reference used in an EndNote library, and .DATA, which stores data about an EndNote library itself. ENZ files use the same XML format structure that is used by other similar metadata files. When opened into a text editor, its contents can be viewed as plain text and edited manually.
Opening and Viewing an ENZ File
To properly open an .ENZ file, it must be run through the EndNote software (version 11 or greater). To view and edit the connection file directly, the user will need to open it using a text editor, such as Notepad++or TextEdit. Users may also be able to view the connection data by using other tools, like a web browser.
Converting an ENZ File
The ENZ file cannot be converted directly with a converter utility into another file type. However, if the data stored in the file is needed in another format, it must first be extracted from the .ENZfile and then saved in that format. This extraction process can usually be completed by opening the connection file with an appropriate program.
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .ENZ) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .ENZ extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .ENZ file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .ENZ extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .ENZ extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .ENZ file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .ENZ file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .ENZ file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .ENZ file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .ENZ file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
