EMBL Nucleotide Format | N/A | Data Files |
The EMB file extension refers to a data format used by the EMBL nucleotide database, a division of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory. This data format is used to store genetic sequence information and related annotations. The file contains textual elements such as record headers, feature qualifiers, originators, and authors alternatively referred to as description lines; in addition to coding features such as polypeptides, operators, control sites, epigenetic features and gene sequence identifiers; as well as any other relevant information associated with a given biological sequence.
It is most commonly associated with the FASTA format, a text-based format used to exchange and store genetic sequences in biology; however, it is also used in other software such as GBK, GCG, and GenBank as data storage for genetic information. It is often used interchangeably with .DAT, .SEQ, and .FAS file extensions for storing similar pieces of data.
Transformation and Exchange of EMB Files
EMB nucleotide files are not natively supported by most software programs, thus their transformation into a compatible format is usually necessary. As a general rule, this kind of transformation can be achieved through the use of specialized conversion software programs such as Soft2Base or Intelligent Converters. Specialized web sites like NCBI also provide online tools that allow users to transform EMB files into common file types such as .DOC, .PDF, and HTML.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .EMB) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .EMB extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .EMB file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .EMB extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .EMB extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .EMB file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .EMB file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .EMB file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .EMB file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .EMB file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
