The EASM (eDrawings Assembly File) is a file format that stores 3D CAD files in a compressed binary format. This file type is used to store 3D models created with various SolidWorks products, such as SolidWorks eDrawings Professional and CAMWorks. The EASM format is the most compact way to store SolidWorks assembly models, minimizing the amount of data needed to transmit the files. Typically, an EASM file can be as much as 20 times smaller than an uncompressed assembly model ( .asm, .sldasm) version.

EASM files preserve any type of model geometry, features, relations, materials and colors, which makes working with them incredibly easy. The EASM files also support external references to external drawing files, documents, otherassembly models and parts ( .SLDDRW, .DRW, .SLDPRT, .PRT, etc).
