DPL (Delphi Package Library) is a file extension associated with Borland Delphi, a visual integrated development environment (IDE). Delphi is used to create an executable (.EXE) basic software applications for Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Android and Linux. DPL files are used to link multiple Object Pascal files (.PAS) together to create a program written for Windows. This file format was primarily designed for programs created by Embarcadero Delphi.
Definition and Usage
DPL files are stored in open text format and the data is stored as a sequence of instructions written in Object Pascal. The content includes other data string entries such as types, global variables and external library references. A DPL file is similar to a dynamic link library (.DLL) - containing all the same program code that is linked together as external library modules alongside other independent dynamic link libraries.
Other related file formats associated with compiled programs include.DCU (Delphi Compiled Unit),.DPK (Designer Package File) and.DPR (Delphi Project Source File). These files are all associated with different aspects of the application programming process.
Files Associated with the DPL Extension
The most commonly associated software applications that can create or use this file type include:
- Embarcadero Delphi 10.2 Tokyo
- Borland Delphi 5-7
- CodeGear RAD Studio 2009-XE7
- Embarcadero C++Builder XE7-XE8
The DPL format can be used to compile compiled resource files (.RES) into binary code. Programs such as NmIdle or Dust cover can also be used to open and edit this type of file. Additionally, the DPL format can be converted to other packages such as.NET assemblies using the “to assembly” option which is available through the Embarcadero RAD Studio.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .DPL) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .DPL extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .DPL file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .DPL extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .DPL extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .DPL file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .DPL file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .DPL file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .DPL file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .DPL file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
