Just Buttons Animated Bitmap Image Format | Lincoln Beach Software | Raster Image Files |
The .BTN file extension is an animated bitmap image format associated with older versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. It was used as a means to store multiple images in a single file, with each one designated as a button in a graphical user interface (GUI). While still supported by early versions of Windows, it is no longer recommended for new development.
A BTN file stores button images in the form of a series of frames which, when played in sequence, provide an animation effect when used as part of a user interface. It is technically defined as a bitmap and contains either 8 or 24-bit color information, depending on how it is encoded. Most BTN files are used to create hyperlinks within web pages, user interfaces, or other software applications.
Compatibility
Since its initial introduction in the Windows 95 Plus! Pack, the BTN format has been replaced by other image formats such as JPEG, GIF and PNG. The format is no longer widely used and is not supported by most modern Windows and web browsers. Additionally, other types of image formats are considered more versatile for creating bitmap images such as: GIF, JPEG, PSD and TIF.
Related formats
The BTN format is similar to other image formats such as .BMP, .GIF, .JPG, .PNG, .PSD, and .TIF. However, it does not support transparency or animation like some of these related formats do. Additionally, it only allows for 8 or 24-bit color data while other image formats may offer greater levels of detail.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .BTN) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .BTN extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .BTN file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .BTN extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .BTN extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .BTN file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .BTN file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .BTN file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .BTN file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .BTN file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
