BFS ( BFS) is a game data file format used by FlatOut games. BFS files are packed archives that store game related assets, such as game maps, characters, textures, artwork, animations, and audio. They also store levels, graphics, pathfinding nodes, and other important game data. BFS archives are used in the development of FlatOut 2 and FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage.
Format
BFS files are the standard archive format used for FlatOut games. The internal structure of these files is made up of several data chunks. Each chunk includes a header and the data for that specific chunk. The chunks themselves contain binary data such as images, textures, movies, audio files, and compressed script files. The BFS file can also be divided into subsections known as ‘nodes’ which contain additional chunks inside them. The goal of this structure is to make managing the large number of files within a BFS archive easier.
Similar File Extensions
Several other games use similar file formats to store their game assets, such as .GCF, .VPK, and .FPK.
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .BFS) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .BFS extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .BFS file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .BFS extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .BFS extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .BFS file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
