The AEC file extension is used for Cinema 4D After Effects Composition files. It is a native file format used by both Cinema 4D (C4D) and Adobe After Effects (AE). It enables users to transfer 3D scenes and compositions between the two programs with ease and accuracy.
An AEC file contains all of the necessary data for a single After Effects composition, including 3D layers, lights, cameras, effects, plug-ins, blend modes, layer styles and cinema 4D assets. In addition, the file also includes project settings, resolution and frame rate information and any additional information needed to create the 3D composition. AEC files are often used in video production workflows, allowing creative teams to collaborate on shots that use both 3D elements and textured 2D elements.
