Approach Database Index Format | N/A | Data Files |
The ADX file extension stands for the Approach Index File which is created by Microsoft Access. This type of file is used by databases in order to speed up the process of retrieving records from the different tables. It is utilized for optimising the process of table lookups and queries. It keeps track of the fields used in a table and stores an index for each field to enable quick searching of records inside the table.
Uses and Technical Details
The ADX file is primarily used by Microsoft Access's query engine to accelerate the finding of related records in particular fields and tables within a database. It can be generated both manually, or as a result of running select queries in Access. For instance, if a query that is executed contains several records from multiple tables, then the index file can be used by Microsoft Access to quickly locate those records without needing to read through each individual row. This optimisation significantly reduces the amount of time it takes for queries to execute.
Any indexes created with Microsoft Access will always be stored as an ADX file, though there are many other related extensions such as .IDB, .IDC, .IND, and .MAP. These related files help with populating lookup fields across various databases, such as special filters and views. It is not recommended to delete or rename any of these files without knowing their exact purpose.
Programs for WINDOWS system
After installing the required software, the operating system will usually automatically associate an unknown file type (in this case .ADX) with the new application. If this does not happen, we can help the system a bit by selecting the software for it, which it should always use to open files with the .ADX extension.
When choosing the software we can select the system to use this software every time.
Remember!
Using it for the first time it is good to check whether the .ADX file opened in the application can be read by us and opens in a way that allows us to use it. If everything is in order, select this option the next time you open a file with the .ADX extension. However, if the file has not opened correctly, we have to look for a different software, with which we can open files with the .ADX extension. Select a different software from our list and install it on your computer. After the software is installed, repeat inspection openings of a .ADX file. Sometimes you have to repeat the operation several times.
Other instructions
If none of the programs listed by us to work with the .ADX file has not meet your expectations, you can try searching other websites. But remember to avoid downloading programs "that can open any file". These applications not only have very limited functionality, but may also expose you to expense tens of dollars when purchasing a license.
In the vast majority of cases you will find the program dedicated to support the .ADX file, or any other file format. In addition, there is a chance that it will be a free program, and its functionality (concerning the .ADX file) will be extended to the maximum.
It is also good to check
- if the .ADX file has no errors
- or if it has been copied (or downloaded by the browser) thoroughly
