What is RFT file?
The .RFT file extension is associated with Autodesk Revit, a 3D design modeling program. RFT stands for “Revit Family Template” – a specific type of binary file created and used by Revit to save detailed information about family types. Family templates are components that are in turn used to create finished Revit family instances. [ ⏩ ] RFT file extension
What is RVT file?
RVT (Revit Project File) is a proprietary file format used for storing files created with Autodesk Revit, a building information modeling (BIM) software used by architects, engineers and other building professionals. The RVT file is a hierarchically structured document that contains both graphical and non-graphical data. The file structure includes levels for objects, elements, families and types. In addition, the RVT file stores advanced settings like project data and material settings. [ ⏩ ] RVT file extension
How to convert the file from RFT to RVT?
To successfully convert the RFT file to RVT, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.RFT). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case RVT (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than RVT).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. RFT to RVT. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting RFT files to RVT files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension RVT, while before this step we had the RFT file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new RVT file, or not.
