What is DIR file?
A DIR (Adobe Director Movie) File is a multimedia file based on the .dir format. It is used for creating interactive multimedia applications and games, as well as classic movies, and offers a popular alternative to proprietary file formats such as Adobe's Shockwave files .swf. They are typically used for packaging files into one movie. Adobe Director Movies can include audio, video, 2D and 3D graphics, as well as scripts written in programming languages like Lingo, JavaScript or ActionScript. [ ⏩ ] DIR file extension
What is CXT file?
The CXT file extension is used to store director protected cast files. This type of cast file is used in Adobe Director, a multimedia authoring and programming environment for interactive media applications. The CXT file contains both the data file and the CCT (cast configuration table) which define the resource hierarchy within the project. It also contains preview information for all objects and groupings. [ ⏩ ] CXT file extension
How to convert the file from DIR to CXT?
To successfully convert the DIR file to CXT, you should install one of the applications from the list. After installing the software, open the program and select the file you want to convert (file-name.DIR). The next step is to select the target format from the list, in this case CXT (usually converters allow you to convert to several different formats, so check out their features - maybe one of the available formats will suit you more than CXT).
What is a file conversion?
A data conversion is normally an automated process to some extent. The effect of the operation of one program is automatically the input product of another application. If that does not happen we need to help the process a little bit and convert the file on our own, e.g. DIR to CXT. To obtain a matched structure of the data, it is necessary to use an appropriate converter.
Program for converting DIR files to CXT files is a kind of a "binary code translator" compensating for the differences in the code or translating it in such a way so that another application could use it. For us, as users, the visible change will be only another file extension. (After converting the file, it will be the extension CXT, while before this step we had the DIR file). For the programs, the difference is on a much higher level – either the application will be able to open a new CXT file, or not.
